The Eye of the Storm
“And once the storm is over, you won’t remember how you made it through, how you managed to survive. You won’t even be sure, whether the storm is really over. But one thing is certain. When you come out of the storm, you won’t be the same person who walked in. That’s what this storm’s all about.”~Haruki Murakami, Kafka on the Shore
There is change afoot. And significant change often feels like chaos, because in many ways, it is. The old is meeting the new, and the new is not yet fully formed. We find ourselves somewhere between what was and what will be, trying to make sense of a reality still taking shape.
Sometimes that looks like a revelation that challenges what we thought we understood about ourselves, someone we love, or the world around us. Sometimes it’s an unexpected turn that moves us out of the familiar and into circumstances we never anticipated. Sometimes it’s all of it at once. Change can lead to growth, even innovation. But that doesn’t make the process easy. It can be disorienting, uncomfortable, and downright exhausting.
The astrology mirrors that pressure. Mercury is retrograde in Scorpio, Venus is retracing her steps from Scorpio back into Libra, and Pluto in Aquarius forms a tight T-square to this Full Moon. Personal reckonings (Scorpio) meet a need for stability (Taurus), while Pluto, at the apex, adds the weight of a collective landscape being remade. It isn’t only our individual lives in flux. The ground beneath all of us is shifting. Things are being reconsidered, uncovered, and brought into question. What we thought was settled may no longer feel so certain.
So if you’re feeling unmoored, unsettled, or caught in a sea of “what happens now?”, if you’re wrestling with unexpected events, changing circumstances, or the sheer exhaustion of trying to make sense of it all, it makes sense.
Enter Taurus.
The most steadfast of the zodiac signs, Taurus reminds us that change has its own rhythm. There is a time for upheaval and a time to find our footing and absorb what we’ve lived through. Symbolized by the bull, Taurus doesn’t react to every disturbance. The bull stands its ground. It observes. It takes its time. And when it does move, it moves with intention.
This is the wisdom of fixed earth.
Taurus is not opposed to change. It simply reminds us that transformation isn’t only about upheaval, revelation, or breaking down what was. It is also about integrating what we’ve experienced into who we are becoming.
Scorpio brings us face-to-face with the experiences that challenge and change us. Taurus helps us absorb them and let that change take root.
Both are transformative. Both are necessary.
The Dance Between Growth and Integration
Astrologer Steven Forrest offers a wonderful way of understanding this relationship. To paraphrase one of his memorable examples: if you’ve had a profound growth experience on Wednesday, perhaps you don’t need another one on Thursday. Maybe you need a day at the beach.
Nature moves through cycles of activity and rest, expansion and contraction. There is an inhale and an exhale. A season for breaking through the soil, and a season for putting down roots.
We are no different.
Often, the most profound changes happen not in the middle of upheaval, but in the quieter moments afterward, when we begin to live what we’ve learned.
Integration is not the absence of growth. It is part of growth.
Natural Steps, Quiet Growth
The Sabian symbol for this Full Moon is particularly fitting. In the version recorded by Marc Edmund Jones from Elsie Wheeler’s visions, it reads:
Natural steps lead to a lawn of clover in bloom.
I love the simplicity of this image. No great leap, no heroic struggle, no demand to force our way forward. Just natural steps leading toward something quietly flourishing. It speaks to patience, humility, and a certain kind of faith, not necessarily in a predetermined outcome, but in the trust that meaningful processes unfold in their own time.
A garden does not grow faster because we stand over it demanding results. Much of what allows a plant to flourish happens beneath the surface, long before the first green shoot appears.
Our lives are often like that.
We may be doing the quiet work of adjusting, reconsidering, grieving, learning, or simply letting an experience settle. From the outside, it might look like nothing is happening.
But something is happening.
Finding the Eye of the Storm
That is worth remembering when life feels especially turbulent. Not all growth is visible, and not every moment calls for action. Sometimes the most challenging work is finding enough steadiness to let the changes already underway unfold.
The eye of a storm is a place of relative calm surrounded by powerful winds. The storm hasn’t ended, but at its center there is stillness. It’s a fitting image for this moment, and for what Taurus offers: not an escape from reality or a denial of what is happening, but an invitation to find our center while the world keeps moving.
Sturdiness is not rigidity. Patience is not avoidance. Rest is not resignation. These, too, are part of how change happens.
So let this Full Moon be a reminder to take a breath. Or five, Go outside. Feel the earth beneath your feet. Watch a sunset. Nourish your body and mind in ways that help you feel grounded. Allow yourself a moment to simply be. To find intentional peace in the storm.
Simple things, but not always easy, especially when life moves faster than we can keep up, when our minds race ahead to what might happen next, or when the weight of uncertainty makes it hard to settle into the present.
That’s why we call it a practice. Not something we master once and for all, but something we return to, again and again. Not to escape what is difficult, but to cultivate the steadiness to meet it.
Because transformation is not only what happens to us. It is how we allow those experiences to shape who we become.
