Rethinking Our Values

The June 14th New Moon arrives in Gemini, a sign often associated with communication, curiosity, and learning. But beneath those familiar themes lies another quality that may be especially important right now: the willingness to rethink.
We live in a world that often rewards having answers. Strong opinions attract attention. Quick conclusions feel reassuring. Conviction is frequently mistaken for wisdom.
Yet Gemini reminds us that growth rarely comes from defending what we already know. More often, it comes from questioning it.
At its highest expression, Gemini is not merely curious. It is thoughtful. It compares perspectives, gathers information, asks questions, and remains open to revision when new understanding emerges.
Because critical thinking is not about defending what we already believe. It is about remaining curious enough to examine whether those beliefs still hold up.

This month’s Sabian symbol offers a fitting image: A Gardener Trimming Large Palm Trees.
The gardener is not planting something new. Nor is the gardener destroying what already exists. The gardener is pruning. Removing what has become overgrown. Redirecting energy. Creating space for healthier growth.
Not everything that grows continues to serve us.
Ideas can become outdated. Assumptions can become overgrown. Commitments, habits, identities, and even long-held beliefs eventually require reassessment.
Because real growth is not only about what we add. Sometimes it is about what we cut away.
This Gemini New Moon invites us to look closely at the stories, opinions, habits, and mental frameworks that shape our lives and ask:
What needs revision? What no longer works? And what becomes of the newness?
Beneath Our Beliefs
But this New Moon may be asking us to look deeper. Because what we think is often shaped by what we value. And what we value is often shaped by the stories we carry about safety, belonging, success, and meaning.
When we examine our beliefs, we sometimes discover something deeper beneath them.
Which brings us to Chiron.
Just days after this New Moon, Chiron takes its first steps into Taurus, beginning a transit that will gradually shift the conversation from who we are to what we value.
The last time Chiron traveled through Taurus was between 1976 and 1984, nearly fifty years ago. Before that, Chiron moved through Taurus during the late 1920s and early 1930s. While history never repeats exactly, both periods coincided with significant questions around value, resources, security, and economic stability.
Collectively and personally, we are entering a period that invites us to reassess what we truly value and the foundations upon which we have built our lives. For some, this may involve money, resources, work, and financial security. For others, it may reveal deeper questions about self-worth, stability, belonging, and what genuinely sustains us. Most likely, it will involve some combination of all of these.
Taurus asks us to look beyond what we say we value and examine what our choices, priorities, and investments reveal about what matters most. Because values are not merely ideas. They become visible in how we spend our time, energy, attention, and resources.
If Gemini invites us to reconsider our ideas, Chiron in Taurus asks us to reconsider the foundations beneath them.

What have we been building our lives around?
And do our choices reflect those values?
