Gemini Full Moon 12/15/24

Let the Light in

"I can't unsee that."

It's a phrase I've uttered countless times over the last month. Maybe you have, too. Truth has a way of surfacing when we least expect it, like a current cutting through murky waters, revealing what lies beneath. Moments of clarity show us precisely what is real—about a situation, a person, or even ourselves. Choices reflect actions, which reflect outcomes that form patterns. Those patterns matter because they expose the essence of who we are.

The last New Moon and Mercury retrograde, both in Sagittarius, certainly foreshadowed some of this. So, if you're feeling truth bombs detonating and seeing people, situations, or yourself in a clear perhaps uncomfortable light, you are right on track. There is a lot to reveal.

There is a lot of information to sort out, understand, and consolidate into some semblance of meaning, which is what Sagittarius times ask of us. But meaning based on faulty data is flawed at best. There is no doubt we are in an information emergency where we are being called to reassess how we collect, perceive, and share information. Never before have we had so much data at our fingertips. Never before have we faced algorithms that create echo chambers of information, confusing lines between fact and opinion. Rather than joining us in a common cause, information now divides us. Ideas, rather than inspire, polarize. Never before has it been so difficult to decipher Truth from falsehood. Never before has this process been so exhausting. Which is kind of the point. Propagandists know that if the airways are flooded with conflicting data, we give up trying to discern the truth, succumbing instead to confusion and apathy, which makes us more vulnerable to manipulation and control.

Enter the Full Moon in Gemini. Gemini, always opposite Sagittarius, is the natural counterbalance to any Sagittarian gravity. Where Sagittarius seeks expansive meaning, Gemini brings curiosity to question and the logic to discern. Gemini invites us to fact-check, rethink, and research well, cracking the rigidity of belief to let the light in. Done well, Gemini helps us recalibrate—balancing the grand vision of Sagittarius with grounded, reasoned inquiry. It asks hard questions. It doesn’t give up when tired. It is okay with not knowing until it knows. Gemini is intellectually nimble and eternally skeptical.

Additionally, with Neptune squaring this Full Moon, Gemini helps us decipher Truth by reminding us of the different levels of Truth-an important distinction. Personal Truth is shaped by our unique histories and experiences. Personal Truth is intuitive and pertinent to what is right for me. Relative Truth aligns with cultural, religious, or societal contexts. But Universal or Technical Truth—rooted in science, logic, and shared reality—transcends both. It encompasses facts like gravity, our shared humanity, the interdependence of nature, the universality of emotions, and the inevitability of change. Problems arise when we mistake Personal or Relative Truths for Universal ones, elevating individual anecdotes over collective data and subjective belief over actual evidence. This is the heart of fundamentalism, and it's anything but fun.

For example, I might hold a Personal Truth that my particular approach to spirituality is the "right" one. This belief might even be widely shared within my community, making it a Relative Truth including those around me. However, that doesn't make it a Universal Truth for all. What feels right for me may not be Universally right for everyone.

Significant problems arise when we confuse Personal or Relative Truths with Universal Truths, imposing our perspective as absolute. Understanding distinctions between facts, opinions, beliefs, bias, and different levels of Truth will be required skills as we navigate the months and years to come.

Because life is complex, things DO need fixing. Complexity means there are many facets to consider in any given solution. Complexity means we need to understand what psychologists already know- that humans tend to adopt a moral standard and then find the evidence and data to support their position. Not the other way around. We need to reverse that habit. So, the only way forward is to embrace the complexity of Truth via responding rather than reacting. We need actual dialog and rationality. We need communication that exchanges actual facts while listening to understand. We need to speak to inspire, rather than demand, preach, blame, indoctrinate, or sermonize. We need to stop confusing Personal and Relative Truths with Universal ones.

As Mercury stations direct on the same day as this Full Moon, we're invited to recalibrate our perspectives. With Mars retrograde in Leo, the fire of assertion burns brightly, urging us to approach life with curiosity and a willingness to challenge our own beliefs. This moment calls for more critical thinking and less blind adherence, more logic and less bias, more questions and fewer assumptions. It's an opportunity to resist the seductive pull of easy certainty and embrace the fertile, transformative ground of the unknown. For it is only in this space of openness, guided by intelligence and thoughtful inquiry, that we can begin to see what is really real.

“Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won't come in."
