Aries Full Moon 9/26/26
What Is Courage Asking of You Now?
“If I am not for myself, who will be for me? And if I am only for myself, what am I? And if not now, when?”
~ Hillel the Elder, recorded in Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers 1:14)
There comes a point. A point when keeping the peace is no longer peaceful. When looking away becomes a choice in itself. When something we have tolerated, accommodated, rationalized, or simply hoped would change reaches a threshold.
Enough.
Sometimes that moment arrives with a roar. Other times, it is surprisingly quiet. Nothing dramatic happens on the outside. We just know that whatever comes next, we can no longer respond in quite the same way.
Something has changed.
Maybe we finally say what we have been afraid to say. See a situation for what it is. Draw the boundary we have been avoiding. Advocate for someone who cannot advocate for themselves. Walk away from something that asks us to betray ourselves. Or step toward something important without knowing exactly where it will lead.
These moments require something vital. Courage.
That is Aries.
Enter Aries
This Full Moon illuminates a part of the sky already crowded with Aries energy. Neptune and Saturn are both retrograde here. Chiron sits at the final degree of the sign. And if we widen the lens to include Eris, Vesta, and Pallas, that Aries emphasis becomes even stronger. Mars, Aries’ ruler, adds its own emotional charge from Cancer.
In sum, Aries lessons are afoot.
What does that mean?
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. The initiator. The pioneer. The warrior. It is the part of us willing to go first. Begin. Aries asserts. Advocates. Risks. Protects. Ventures beyond what is comfortable or known. It is the force that rises when something inside us says:
Something different needs to happen.
And often:
I may have to be the one who does something about it.
But all those retrograde planets add nuance. This is not simply a call to charge forward. Retrogrades always ask us to pause, reconsider, reassess, and revise. To look again at how and where we are using our will, our courage, and our capacity to assert.
What are we really fighting for?
Neptune asks us to reach toward the ideals that call us beyond self-interest: compassion, dignity, fairness, care, the better angels of our shared humanity. Saturn keeps it really real, asking whether our actions actually match what we say we believe. The asteroids add their own themes of justice, truth, honor, strategy, and service. And Mars in Cancer brings the whole thing closer to the heart. Home, belonging, protection, and what we love.
Together, there is something here about knowing what we are fighting for. Because there is a difference between fighting against something and standing for something. One keeps our attention focused on what we oppose. The other asks us to remember what we are trying to protect, preserve, create, or become.
And that is always our choice. We can fight from fear. From pride. From the need to be right. From the desire to control, punish, or win.
Or not.
Because true courage needs something better to serve. At its best, what sits beneath that good fight is love.
Love Rebel
A person. A family. A community. A principle. A way of life. A future we believe is still possible. Sometimes even a part of ourselves we are finally unwilling to abandon.
That is what gives real courage its purpose. Not the fight itself, but the love underneath it.
Look throughout history, and we see this again and again. People have challenged families, institutions, cultures, governments, and entire systems because something rooted in love—dignity, justice, freedom, the protection of another human being—eventually mattered more than staying comfortable.
And history isn’t the only place this happens.
It happens every day in the choices we make. A parent advocates for a child. Someone tells the truth in a room where everyone has agreed not to. A person draws a boundary in a relationship. An employee speaks up about something that isn’t right. Someone leaves. Someone stays and insists that things change.
The scale may be different, but the human capacity is the same. Eventually, something matters enough that remaining passive becomes its own kind of choice. And often, the emotion that tells us we have reached that threshold is anger.
Enter Anger
We humans have complicated relationships with anger. Some of us learned that anger was dangerous. Some learned that it was unacceptable. Some learned to swallow it until it became resentment, exhaustion, or despair. Others learned to discharge it so quickly that there was never much opportunity to discover what it was trying to say.
But anger has something important to tell us: Pay attention.
Something matters here. Something feels threatened. A boundary may have been crossed. Something we value may be at stake. Something may need to change.
And anger doesn’t just get our attention. It mobilizes us. It brings energy into the system. It can give us access to the force required to protect, confront, create, refuse, advocate, or finally do something about what we have tolerated for far too long.
No wonder anger has fueled revolutions, both collective and deeply personal. Sometimes (often?) we need to get royally pissed off before we are willing to say, No more.
Anger may be the spark. But a spark is not a compass. Anger tells us that something matters. It does not necessarily tell us what happened, who is to blame, what is true, or what we should do next.
That distinction matters.
Because anger becomes dangerous when the feeling becomes the evidence. When I feel wronged becomes therefore, I am right. When the energy that could be used to protect something we value becomes permission to punish, project, or destroy. Aries reminds us that the work isn’t to extinguish the fire. It is to decide what we want the fire to serve.
Anger can become courage. Advocacy. A protest. A refusal. A decision. A piece of art. An act of protection. A fire that ignites in service of something or someone we love.
But fire needs direction. And that direction is our responsibility.
What Do You Love Enough?
Full Moons illuminate. They bring something into view that may have been developing long before we had words for it.
And sometimes what they illuminate is a threshold. A place where something can no longer remain quite as it has been.
Personally, we may reach that threshold in a relationship, a belief, a pattern, a boundary, or a way of living.
Collectively, thresholds can emerge when enough people begin to see something differently. When what was once tolerated is questioned. When what seemed inevitable no longer does. When enough individual voices begin to become a collective one.
Maybe we recognize that something we have accepted for too long is no longer acceptable. Maybe we change our mind even when changing it costs us something. Maybe we become clearer about what we actually stand for, rather than simply which side we are against. Maybe we find the courage to add our voice to something larger than ourselves. Maybe we decide which battles are truly ours to fight and which ones only keep us fighting. And maybe we begin putting some of that energy toward protecting, creating, and building what we want to exist instead. Because maybe love is asking us to become a little braver on its behalf.
Thresholds don’t tell us what happens next. They are simply doorways to someplace else. Courage doesn’t guarantee that we will win. It doesn’t guarantee that other people will understand. It doesn’t guarantee that the path we choose will unfold the way we hope.
That is why it is courage.
It asks us to act without certainty while remaining anchored to something that matters.
And perhaps that is the invitation of this Aries Full Moon. Not simply to ask what makes us angry. Not simply what we oppose. Not even what we are willing to fight against.
But to look beneath all of that and ask:
What do you love enough to stand up for?
Because standing up for something is only part of the story.
We also have to know what is worth standing for and what courage is asking of us now.
The symbolism around this Full Moon offers a beautiful, somewhat unexpected clue. And where 3° Aries falls in your chart can show us where that invitation may be unfolding in your own life.
